Thank you, Bus Captains!

On 28 April 2025, we launched our project “Thank you, Bus Captains!”. Through this initiative, we aim to nurture good manners in children by encouraging them to show appreciation and recognise the important role community helpers especially bus captains play in our daily lives. This project is especially meaningful to our children, many of them regularly commute on Bus 354, which brings them to and from school as well as to Pasir Ris Interchange.

The children will be preparing 60 packs of goodies and 60 thank you cards for the bus captains. This is also a meaningful opportunity for us to celebrate Singapore’s 60th birthday! We want to thank the bus captains for their dedication to their work and for driving safely every day, rain or shine.

The parents are invited to contribute to the purchase of goodies and making the ‘thank you‘ cards with the children. The children will also be packing the goodies bags together.

On 11 July 2025, the children from Nursery and K1 classes will represent the school to present the gifts to the bus captains at the new Pasir Ris Interchange. They will also be touring the bus interchange.

The session ended with the children singing SSDB theme song: Step by Step and pledging to do their part to greet the bus captains when going up the bus and saying ‘thank you’ when getting down the bus.

This project gave our children a meaningful opportunity to appreciate our everyday heroes — the bus captains.

The children decided on the items, made “Thank You” cards, packed the goodie bags, and prepared to deliver them. A big thank you to our supportive parents who helped carry and transport the gifts!

We were thankful for answered prayers — the rain stopped just in time! Go-Ahead Singapore generously provided a bus to take the children to the Pasir Ris Bus Interchange. What a treat — no bus fare needed, and lots of excitement!

At the interchange, the children learnt about bus safety, toured the station, and personally handed the goodie bags to the bus captains. It was a joyful exchange — the children gave with glad hearts, and the captains received it with smiles.

SSDB Closure: Thank you, Bus Captains!

We had our SSDB project closure on Monday, 14 July 2025.

The children reflected on what they had learned through the project and made a special pledge - to continue greeting the bus captains when they board the bus and thanking them when they alight. A small act of kindness that goes a long way in showing appreciation!
