Start Small Dream Big 2024

SSDB Project C.A.R.E.

Today (29 April 2024) was the initial launch for the “Start Small Dream Big” (SSDB) project. The theme for this year is “Doing Good together”. The school embarked on a journey to instil the values of the children to learn to appreciate their grandparents and/or caregivers. Everyone was gathered at the chapel. The wide grins and orange bucket hats created a suitably bright atmosphere at the chapel. The children had the opportunity to know more about “Start Small Dream Big” through slides presentations and song. There was even a sharing session from the older classes (Nursery to Kindergarten) where the children had the chance to share how their grandparents and/or helpers had help them in one way or another. From July through August, the school children will delve into the world of appreciating their grandparents and/or caregivers through a series of activities (making of appreciation cards, serving food, and presenting door gifts to them). We believe that by starting small, the children can dream big and make meaningful impact for their grandparents and/or caregivers. With everyone playing apart, together we will be able to do it. Stay tuned and look out for our next exciting upcoming “Start Small Dream Big” events!

SSDB Project C.A.R.E. Big Party

Prior to the Start Small Dream Big event (SSDB), the children from the school came out with appreciation cards for their grandparents and caregivers. In addition, these appreciation cards were packed into the gift packs together with the towel bear. To begin our journey of the Start Small Dream Big project (SSDB), we had cordially invited the grandparents and caregivers to the school for the grand event on 1 Aug 2024 (Thursday).

It was a great pleasure to have the grandparents and caregivers with us. Our school nurtures the ideologies of values and aims to hone our children as responsible and appreciative members of society. It was in this spirit that we celebrated today. This year the school theme for the SSDB is C. A. R. E. What does it mean? It means that caregivers are Caring, Amazing, Respectful and Energetic.

The grandparents and caregivers were welcomed by the Kindergarteners and directed to sit in the Chapel. The Kindergarteners started off with a community song and the grandparents and caregivers were invited to sing-along with them.

Next, the Nursery class did a song performance by singing two songs. It was such a delight to see the grandparents and caregivers grinning with joy. Coming up next was our ex-parent mum who led in the fun dance exercise and the grandparents and caregivers were encouraged to follow. They were seen full of enthusiasm in following in the fun dance exercise.

After the fun dance exercise, the Kindergarteners presented gift packs to the grandparents and caregivers. The grandparents and caregivers were overwhelmed with joy and touched by the children’s gestures. They were able to interact with the children and have photo-taking sessions with them. Last but not least, the kindergarteners were also encouraged to serve light refreshment to the grandparents and caregivers. Although the event may be short, but the grandparents, caregivers and children had a wonderful time.

Once again, we thanked the grandparents and caregivers for their active participation throughout the event. The entire journey of learning and guidance from grandparents and caregivers is an important step towards promoting awareness and appreciation for our children.

Closure for SSDB

Today (12 Aug 2024) was the closure of our Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) event. Everyone was gathered at the chapel and the orange bucket hats had created a suitably bright atmosphere. The children had the opportunity to re-cap the journey of their SSDB event through slides presentations and songs. There was even a sharing session from the children on how their grandparents and caregivers had responded to this event. The school had even received a complimentary letter from one of the grandparents commending us for this wonderful project. The majority of the grandparents and caregivers were happy with the events as the children honoured their wisdom and efforts that they have contributed to the society. Hence, this project has helped to raise awareness and appreciation for children to show love and care to their grandparents as well as caregivers and how they can play a part in respecting and caring for them.
